Win but...
Team Vasantham - 5 (Naresh, Ananth (pen), Blondie 2, Rashid)
Woodlands Reds - 3
Even though it was an awesome comeback after being down 2-0 then 3-1, the fact that we fought against the referee and amongst ourselves made it a game to forget! As leader of the team (If i may say so), i am disappointed with the reactions of some of our players with the decisions made by the referee. True enuf, most of them were dubious decisions and some were downright riduculous like the goal he allowed and then disallowed after being pressured by the opponent. C'mon guys, we were the better team by far and did not need those decisions in order to win!! We had 21 shots at goal and 5 goals and the opponents 3 shots and 3 goals!! the way we were playing we could have gone double digit.. but the point is our behaviour towards the referee was unforgivable and the first time in so many months we have existed as a team i had to call the field manager and referee manager to apologise.. If we had been in the lead, we would have accepted the referee's wrong decisions and played on. I realise that losing is not easy to take, but the moment we only think of winning, we stop having fun and people who play for fun would stop coming. I have been playing and watching football for a long time and have faced some strange refereeing. We see some strange refereeing in Champions league games or EPL games bv Qualified Proffessional FIFA referees.. if teams like chelsea, man U, liverpool, arsenal can take wrong decisions and play on, i don't see why we can't.. Remeber guys, we are a team with a reputation.. lets not make it a bad one!
Other than this flaw, it was a fantastic passing game, with the goal of the season by our guest player Naresh who practically beat 9 players before he scored. Ananth was a fantastic revelation in the middle of the field and created almost all the goals. Good play by blondie, kanna, kathir, selvam and jag as well. Saravanan ayavoo ran his heart out and i promised him that i would not talk about his three misses, especially the one that i created for him infront of goal with only the goalkeeper to beat.. (Which he missed by the way.. hehe)
MOTM - Ananth - superb midfield display and created all the goals single-handedly.

A strong performance!
Bishan eleven - 3
Team Vasantham - 1 (Yang)
It was a game that we should be proud about.. we played against an excellent team and nearly got a result. After going into an early lead, we defended superbly - David, Jag, Gary, Dass, Sasi and Kathir were outstanding.. however we must understand that everybody must be given a chance to play and i apologise for my intentional dismantling of the defence. Even then, i felt that we gave them a good game and nearly scored.. prakash hitting the post, me missing the penalty and the follow-up (Sorry guys.. will never give vinod grief concerning his miss anymore!). A performance we can be proud of...
MOTM - The entire defence including our superb keeper SASI (Want to be permenant Keeper or not?.. hehe)

First Defeat... but

Team Vasantham - 2 (Blondie, Vinod)
Even though we lost our first game this year, i think there are more pertinent things we have to think about.. first of all, we must realise that the important thing about playing is not winning, it is communicating as a team and enjoying ourselves. the moment we do not have fun, there is no point playing at all. mistakes are part and parcel of the game and even if we win, there is no trophy to be won.. jsut the friendly banter between brothers. Can we imagine playing WITH each other when we can't stand one another.. that is unthinkable. Come on guys.. lets get together and overcome this!
Next game - Saturday 26April 2008 3pm at Bowen Sec

What a Comeback!!
Team Vasantham - 4 (Maran, Deva, Sasi, Kanna (Blondie))
SAFSA Veterans - 4
A remarkable comeback, after being down 4-0 at half time! It has to be said that everyone played their heart out and ran for every single ball in the 2nd half. Well done guys, it was one of those legendary memories that will stay with us for a long time. Kudos to Kanna (Tarzan), Kathir and Gajen who changed the system and solidified the midfield and all the strikers scored. The fact that the opponents congratulated us at the end of the game and said, 'Great comeback' guys was a compliment to all of us who played that day. Our heart must go out to Rush who injured himself and might be out for some time. Msg to him: take care bro, we need u back asap and will be praying for you.
However we do need to be more tighter in coming games. Tc guys and see u all nxt game.
MOTM - Gajen - 4 assists leading to 4 goals - the main instrument of our comeback. Also kudos to deva for running his heart out.

It was a hard fought tournament (literally sometimes!) but both of our teams got eliminated from the second round, albeit on penalties! well done guys, next time the following personnel are banned from taking penalties (HEHEH) - Vinod, Anand, Rush, Kanna! and Sasi, congrats on being the first player to be sent off in the tournament, and also 5mins upon actually coming on!
