Team Vasantham - 2 (Subaish, Ananth)
Tampines Boys - 6
Well.. finally a thrashing.. on the wrong side! i think the referee (who was quite obviously a good friend of the opponent) looked to favour them in most decisions. But still we should have closed the game when we were 2-1 up as we did not have players. Some of us lost composure and were more looking forward to whack them rather than play our game. We don't need to win every game guys but we do not need to lose like this. We always have to play to whistle and look to score and not look to get revenge.. Selvam our GK and Subaish played well and Ananth played his heart out.. but to no avail.. I strained my calf muscle and looking to be out for at least a month.The bright spark of the game?.. being able to play alongside the legend that is R Suriamurthi.. Thanks to kathir and sivaram for bringing him. He created most of our chances down the left in the later part of the first half. What a player! For those who attended the jeanz opening instead of coming for the game.. Thanks!!!

A fantastic game and outing!
Team Vasantham - 6 (Deva, Rush 2, Kajay, Ramesh, Naresh)
Rounders Rangers - 2
A brilliant stadium, watched by actual supporters, and a scintillating display by our guys.. One of our best games this year and we could have been winners by double digits. Terrific off-the-ball movement and intricate passing with explosive shooting. I must say that the move of the match was when prakash went past the whole midfield shifted to the right and sent in a swinging cross that i threw myself at.. but a great save by their goalkeeper. Could have been goal of the season.. sigh! but naresh is scoring goal of the season every game. Naresh captained the side on his birthday and nearly scored. the dinner after that was a real bonding session and a great get-together.. we should do it more often. Sara promised to come and didnt turn up, and as such will buy the drinks the next time! Enjoy the holidays all!

it was a game we were controlling comfortably, then things went heywire!! first the weather was like 36degress, we started the game with onl 10players, then first injury, made us 9, then became 10 after kajay came in, became 10 again after mani's injury.. but to win wih just 10men in sweltering heat was an achievement. kudos to all the players who managed to hold on despite an onslaught from the fit vietnamese...(just couldnt take the incessant talking!). I should have put away the clear opportunity, sorry guys. But a brilliant defensive display by kathir, gary, mani, naresh, kajay and selvam as well as sasi. welcome back ananth.. two well taken goals!

We were on a non-stop assault on them from the word 'go' and this was what we lacked in the previous game. Ramesh performmance at the middle was exemplary as wel as Naresh.. If not for their goalkeeper and we spurning chance at chance. All goals were fantastic including kajay straight from the corner flag, and chin yang's back flick. Wel done guys..

Game at Yio Chu Kang
Team Vasantham - 7 (Kajay, Saravanan Ayavoo 2, Vinodh 2, Maran, Sasi)
Holy Innocents' High Sch U16 - 2
A game that was supposed to be a walk in the park became a bit complicated because we did not take it seriously enough. Some of our players were walking after losing the ball, we were laughing and enjoying banter DURING THE GAME and kept on making silly mistakes.. if it were tougher opponents, we could have been slaughtered. In the end, i felt the scoreline did not do justice to the tenacity and hardwork displayed by the young boys against us.. they did not give us time on the ball and closed us down.. cmon guys, we need to play to our strengths and forget about the opponents, we need to ponder over the fact that we conceded 2 goals against 13-16 year olds, even though the field is to be blamed too.
MOTM - Prakash (.. but to be fair, i think it is the whole holy innocents' high team who refused to give up)
Kudos also to saravanan ayavoo for making good on his promise to score and catch up with the rest of the goal-scorers.. but still some way to go bro, vinod is now 13 goals!!

fun nite out!
10guys from our team spend the nite of the euro final playing futsal at Fico Sports Hub and then traveliing to Serangoon Garden to watvch the game.. had a really fun time guys, though tiring to turn up in school just 2hrs after.. looking forwrd to more such outings... and fantastic performance from Deva as goalkeeper!!! hehe...

It was one of the most attacking performance ever, the ball always being moved forward and wingers running at the opponent defence until they were totally ravaged. Fantastic performance by one and all, including the defence as all three goals were a result of the referee giving them free gifts.. But for me the combined passing between anand, kathir, tarzan, naresh and blondie that led to the 30 metre missile by Naresh was the best goal!! and kudos to blondie because he was unstoppable on the day, running, creating, shooting and of course scoring. Have to also thank you guys for making sure i scored.. hehe.. missed too many anyway!! Vinod is now our top scorer but Blondie is close behind.. Saravanan ayavoo - please catch up!!

Win but...
Team Vasantham - 5 (Naresh, Ananth (pen), Blondie 2, Rashid)
Woodlands Reds - 3
Even though it was an awesome comeback after being down 2-0 then 3-1, the fact that we fought against the referee and amongst ourselves made it a game to forget! As leader of the team (If i may say so), i am disappointed with the reactions of some of our players with the decisions made by the referee. True enuf, most of them were dubious decisions and some were downright riduculous like the goal he allowed and then disallowed after being pressured by the opponent. C'mon guys, we were the better team by far and did not need those decisions in order to win!! We had 21 shots at goal and 5 goals and the opponents 3 shots and 3 goals!! the way we were playing we could have gone double digit.. but the point is our behaviour towards the referee was unforgivable and the first time in so many months we have existed as a team i had to call the field manager and referee manager to apologise.. If we had been in the lead, we would have accepted the referee's wrong decisions and played on. I realise that losing is not easy to take, but the moment we only think of winning, we stop having fun and people who play for fun would stop coming. I have been playing and watching football for a long time and have faced some strange refereeing. We see some strange refereeing in Champions league games or EPL games bv Qualified Proffessional FIFA referees.. if teams like chelsea, man U, liverpool, arsenal can take wrong decisions and play on, i don't see why we can't.. Remeber guys, we are a team with a reputation.. lets not make it a bad one!
Other than this flaw, it was a fantastic passing game, with the goal of the season by our guest player Naresh who practically beat 9 players before he scored. Ananth was a fantastic revelation in the middle of the field and created almost all the goals. Good play by blondie, kanna, kathir, selvam and jag as well. Saravanan ayavoo ran his heart out and i promised him that i would not talk about his three misses, especially the one that i created for him infront of goal with only the goalkeeper to beat.. (Which he missed by the way.. hehe)
MOTM - Ananth - superb midfield display and created all the goals single-handedly.

A strong performance!

It was a game that we should be proud about.. we played against an excellent team and nearly got a result. After going into an early lead, we defended superbly - David, Jag, Gary, Dass, Sasi and Kathir were outstanding.. however we must understand that everybody must be given a chance to play and i apologise for my intentional dismantling of the defence. Even then, i felt that we gave them a good game and nearly scored.. prakash hitting the post, me missing the penalty and the follow-up (Sorry guys.. will never give vinod grief concerning his miss anymore!). A performance we can be proud of...
MOTM - The entire defence including our superb keeper SASI (Want to be permenant Keeper or not?.. hehe)

Even though we lost our first game this year, i think there are more pertinent things we have to think about.. first of all, we must realise that the important thing about playing is not winning, it is communicating as a team and enjoying ourselves. the moment we do not have fun, there is no point playing at all. mistakes are part and parcel of the game and even if we win, there is no trophy to be won.. jsut the friendly banter between brothers. Can we imagine playing WITH each other when we can't stand one another.. that is unthinkable. Come on guys.. lets get together and overcome this!

What a Comeback!!

A remarkable comeback, after being down 4-0 at half time! It has to be said that everyone played their heart out and ran for every single ball in the 2nd half. Well done guys, it was one of those legendary memories that will stay with us for a long time. Kudos to Kanna (Tarzan), Kathir and Gajen who changed the system and solidified the midfield and all the strikers scored. The fact that the opponents congratulated us at the end of the game and said, 'Great comeback' guys was a compliment to all of us who played that day. Our heart must go out to Rush who injured himself and might be out for some time. Msg to him: take care bro, we need u back asap and will be praying for you.
However we do need to be more tighter in coming games. Tc guys and see u all nxt game.
MOTM - Gajen - 4 assists leading to 4 goals - the main instrument of our comeback. Also kudos to deva for running his heart out.

It was supposed to be against Stanford but they pulled out last minute and our opponents had to be arranged in the elevnth hour. Ganesh, Rashid and Prakash played for them in the first half and myself and Sasi with Ganesh played for the opponents in the 2nd half.. unfortunatley it was a game that we should have won comfortably but we went ahead to make a mess of it. When Rush is not around, we seem to be lacking creativity and try to use our speedy wingers.. they deserved the draw as they had to play at least 30 minutes with only 9 men and gave us a nightmare in the closing stages. I think we need to be more clinical infront of goal.. if not for4 Selvam who pulled off saves after saves, i think we could have been humiliated by 9 men! Also we had last minute pull-outs from our team as well, without finding replacements. Sorry guys, but just want to inform you all that i too have a lot of work to do but still turn up because i enjoy playing football and especially with you guys. just a matter of making time..and you know there is money involved in the booking of referee and field. I am not calling for new players because i think our squad is settled but pullouts are going to cause disruption. Please let me know whether you can make it at least 3 days before so that we don't turn up inadequate on the field...

A hard fought game where we showed our ability to grind out results. We were much the underdogs in the second half eventhough we were better in the first. a fantastic defensive display by ganesh, jag, gary, vijay, dass, naresh, mani and sasi ensured a clean sheet for us.. a superb corner by gajen which sailed straight into the net.. one of the early contenders for goal of the year for us..

Tough Game...but we fought till the end!
Game 3: Anderson Secondary 5pm

My Man of the Match - Mani
It was a tough game, in which we went down first, survived a penalty, came back to lead 4-1 and eventually drawing..
Hats off to our players because it was a tough team and we were playing in tough weather conditions..some positives: the turnout! for the first time we had 19 players and had to practicaly replace the whle team in the first half. However the negative was that we lost our cool and nearly got embroiled in a free-for-all at the end. C'mon guys! lets enjoy the game, play hard but fair and leave the place happy.

1st game 2008

Team Vasantham is a group of singers, hosts, drama actors, models, dancers from the tamil tv channel vasantham central who have formed a football team and are playing matches regularly over the weekend (weekends that we don't have a show to perform in that is). The team has been existence for 2 years now. The team is managed/captained by me, elamaran and we invite teams who are interested to play to come forth and we will arrange a date/venue to play.
We wear orange (cos i think pink and purple is too... u know... ). Some teams especially teams that know we are from tv alwys come in laughing and making fun of us ,"wimps from tv, really can play football ah?, come on give us a dance/performance haha...etc". that is till we start to play. They don't realise that is the birthright of all Indians to know how to play football, as some of our opponents will testify.
